laptop thinking
I'm thinking of buying a laptop. Just a cheap one. No special frills. As long as it can wi-fi and handle Photoshop, I'm fine. I found one while I was malling this weekend. The leading candidate is a Twinhead notebook. At around 53K (that's around 960 USD). I think that's a pretty good deal. I'm just a bit iffy about it being white. I was also looking at the Toshibas and Compaq's of the world, they're a bit over the budget.

I really, really want one. I'm trying to justify the expense by equalizing it with the overwhelming emotion of missing my old laptop (it was stolen at school). Also by using my hectic and mobile career as leverage.

Gah. I wish I was rich.

laptops rock! under 1k is good, but prices run a little lower in the US (strangely).

good luck searching and don't forget to give it a name! :)

It's worth it Dez. In HK it's like an ordinary gadget - pang asar diba? I've been using an IBM (a year old now, the best for me)and I feel like wanting a brand new, say the MacBook (BLACK) pero... sa bonus month na lang kaya, 5 months to go.

I think TOSHIBA is a neato choice too - believe me been in and out in a big computer shop infront of my flat almost everyday. I try them on, waiting for the discount price.. pero, sa bonus month na lang ulet.

Best to do, DO NOT RUSH. Check and try them first para sigurado ka.

Maulan ba diyan? May bagyo dito eh.

I suggest ASUS laptops (yeah I'm biased, I own one :D). Go to shops at gilmore, lots of choices. Last January I got mine, 50K, 1.5GHz, wifi, 1GB RAM 15.4" wide screen (1280x800). You can get that specs now at a lower price. ACER is a nice choice too. Or if you want an old school iBook G4, it's only 50K now, albeit with anaemic specs, only 512MB (and OSX loves RAM to say the least). And recently, both AMD and Intel slashed their prices, expect for lower priced laptops in the coming months :)

Oh, and I heard that Cool Toyz at Libis is good place to hunt for laptops.

neko: a name! i almost forgot! maybe i should name it Dory :)

jojo: truly. a vaio is waaaay over budget here though. pfft.

vina: a very tempting offer. although again, i did wish i was rich.

K: oo nga nang-asar pa raw! the toshibas within the budget are Celeron :( and people have been telling me to go Mac. but i feel i'll just be so frustrated with the learning curve. deadma na.

qroon: yup i'll be looking at Asus over the weekend. greenhills kami. masyado limited stores sa Libis eh :) tenks for the tips!

hey, before you buy the twinhead.. make sure the screen is doing good. my team uses a twinhead after a year it started to go crazy. the LCD is not reliable; we couldnt see anything... take note we have two and the same thing happened to the other!

wow~ i didn't know that the price is just as expensive as here in Korea...

I thought it's cheaper to buy in Philippines...hmmmmm....

i also want a laptop but it's not the right time for me to get one...

    sana nga mayaman tayo....hehe...

tonkits: thanks for the warning. i actually scrapped the Twinhead off the list now. I saw that the battery was actually sticking out of the frame. So the OC in me said no-way. I'm now choosing between an Acer and a Compaq.

idealpinkrose: i continue to wish i was richer. hehe.

soultude: i was actually considering the Dells of the world. because Chips' dad has one and it's doing fine. but yes, it is boxy. and though i know people in Canada, they're not coming until Christmas. that's a miiiiighty long time!

as an update, the latest candidate (though around 5,000 over budget) is a Compaq Presario V3060. 512RAM, Core Duo at 1.6 GHz, 60gig HDD, DVD-RW combo, wide screen with all that wi-fi and bluetooth stuff. and it's a pretty shiny black all around.
