everyone's talking about it
I watched 300. Finally. A testosterone-filled movie. But I could feel the estrogen levels of the women in the theater rising. It was a feast. Cinematic. Utterly beautiful. A refreshing take on how to film an epic. I love the graphic treatment. It made the beheading of breathlessly beautiful men more bearable. Okay, I will stop trying to yammer about what everyone else has probably already praised. Instead indulge me in my little senseless thought balloons as I was digesting this beautiful production:

1. The casting department must have had a grand hell of a time.

2. God, look at those abs.

3. Oh, their arms are so toned... hug me, please. Any one of you.

4. I want to be a drugged Oracle.

5. A lot of hair waxing probably went on...

6. Kissing King Leonidas must be itchy.

7. I want to be a Spartan woman.

8. And I want the Queen's dresses.

9. Xerxes was one huge scary-ass gay man.

10. Why did they have to kill the horses!??

11. Wow, I want to jump and knife someone's arm off too.

12. King Leonidas is so cute when he's sarcastic.

13. God, even the old people had toned muscles.

14. Ooohwaa ooohhwaaa ooohhwaaahhh!!!!

I totally agree with everything you said. I also liked the movie, enough to watch it twice. I liked the script as it wasn't cheesy, the acting, the graphic treatment, like you said...and well, I liked everything!

After watching the movie, I went to imdb and found out the following:

    1) The principal cast went through a six week rigorous training and work out.

    2) The actor who played King Leonidas is the actor who played Phantom in the movie version of Phantom of The Opera.

    3) The oracle is only a model, not an actress. (Do you think her scenes were shot underwater? Her movements, hair and clothes seemed so fluid and her facial expressions looked like she was trying hard not to breathe, as if she was underwater).

    4) The actor who played Xerxes is a famous Brazilian model who was recently cast as another survivor in Lost.

    5) And yes, the actor who played Xerxes went through a lot of hair waxing that he couldn't take the pain and found a respect for women who undergo waxing. Furthermore, after the first waxing experience, he insisted that he be shaved everyday instead.

    6) They reused the props (shields, spears, etc) from Troy and Alexander.

    7) Most of the film, 90% actually, was shot on blue and green screens.

    8) Personally, I don't find the actress who played the queen that beautiful in real life. In fact, she looked plain. All that curly hair made the difference.

    9) I also loved the dresses. I was half tempted to find plain white bedsheets in our closet and ribbons from old gifts and make dresses out of them!

    10) The actor who plays the narrator is Faramir, Boromir's brother in Lord of The Rings.

    11) The actor who played Leonidas' captain is also the captain to Brad Pitt's Achilles in Troy.

    12) According to Greek Historians, in real life, before going to battle, King Leonidas told his queen to "marry a good man and have nice children." Sob!!!
